Success FactorsPersonal atmospherePeople know each other at the ISM. Even they do not know the names of all their 800 fellow students, they are sure to notice an unfamiliar face. Students study in small groups, and have the opportunity to approach instructors and ask questions outside of the classroom. In any given semester, around 150 of the 800 total students are completing their international semesters. The remaining students see each other every day in the ISM's modern and open buildings. Students are divided into small groups of around 20-30 students. Language courses (English, French, or Spanish) have a maximum of 15 students. Due to the small class size, instructors are able to respond to students and motivate them on an individual basis. The ISM also emphasizes interactivity. Instructors do not just lecture, but they also discuss specific business problems with their students. Class participation and a willingness to be involved in the thinking and learning process are important traits for ISM students to have. The ISM service centers, including the International Office and the Career Center, support the students in the planning of their international semester and in their internship and job searches. The advisors help to point out opportunities, which the students then pursue and take advantage of on their own. |
