should be able to manage complex projects. He
should be able to interpret the roles of and the
relationships between the various players in a
project. Furthermore he will be able to determine
the scope of the project, including selection
of the best methods. In this course, participants
apply various techniques for scheduling,
cost estimating and progress monitoring of a project,
and learn how to draw up a project plan
and to evaluate the main results of the project. Course Description In the course, participants reconstruct every step of a complex project and develop a project plan that can be adapted to different projects. They start with the development of a project life cycle and discuss the roles of different role players, e.g. the executive management team, the project sponsor, and the functional inputs to the company. Participants learn how to adapt a project to the company’s strategy and to use precedence diagrams and Gantt charts to schedule a project. Finally, they set up a project budget and learn how to apply cost information and control systems. Topics of the Course:

Johan Burger is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch Business School in South Africa, teaching Strategic Management, Financial Management and Systems Thinking, as well as Fundamentals of Management. From 1991 to 1998, the former officer of the South African army was also involved in the Faculty of Military Science – as Senior Lecturer and Head of "Department of Military Strategy". In addition, Burger held, amongst others, positions as Chief Executive Officer of the University of Stellenbosch Business School Executive Development (USB ED), a public company created to drive executive education, and Managing Director for the KGA Life Ltd., a medium-sized insurance company. Today, he leads his own consulting firm. At the ISM, he teaches Project Management at MBA level. |
